Kiehl's Celebrates Grand Opening with Edible Sac High Benefit

Kiehl’s Since 1851, the venerable New York-based purveyor of fine quality skin and hair care preparations, will celebrate the grand opening of its modern apothecary retail store at Arden Fair, the first in the greater Sacramento area, with a special event featuring its local charity partner, “Edible Sac High”, coordinated by Greenwise Joint Venture, which is modeled after Alice Waters’ Edible Schoolyard.

It is the only program of its kind at a high school level in the U.S.

Nina at the Golden Globes

By Nina Hajian

How many dresses do you have in your closet that you don’t wear?  It seems silly to buy a dress and only wear it once but we all do it!

With Facebook, twitter and instagram it’s like we all walk our very own red carpet every day. Who wants to be photographed in the same dress multiple times?  There’s a way to solve this problem, get you new dresses, and do good by helping WEAVE all at the same time.

Back when I was getting ready to go to the Golden Globes I was encouraged by one of our faithful NOW 100.5 listeners to donate my gown to a high school student that couldn’t afford a prom dress.  I loved the idea!  Every girl remembers her prom and whether it’s good or bad she at least deserves to feel beautiful.

Thrifting on the Grid

Thrifting on the Grid

By Amy Thoma

This year I made a New Years Resolution to spend less money on clothes. Notice I didn’t say shop less, just spend less money. I’m the worst of both worlds: I like really high-quality things but to put it charitably, I have a frugal streak. Enter the world of thrift stores.

I’m not naturally a thrift-er. I find the prospect of digging through old clothes kind of gross and the thought of wearing something used freaks me out. But, this is America in 2013—we have washing machines, dry cleaners and bleach.

In just a few trips to thrift stores I scored a dress from Banana Republic with the tags still on ($8), 2 shirts from JCrew ($4 each). I also saw a handbag  in the store I donated a few months ago (no, I didn’t rebuy it, there’s a reason it went in the donate pile).

Here are some tips I picked up along the way:... Read More

Each year during the first twelve days of December, Midtown Sacramento kicks off the holiday season with events and specials that are sure to fill visitors and residents with holiday cheer. These events showcases local businesses and organizations through festive activities that engage the public to make Midtown a part of their holiday. By supporting small boutiques during the busy season, locals will find good deals on their favorite items and also help out owners within the community for a greater cause.

“It is quite simple, by spending your hard earned dollars within your community, you are directly giving back to one of your neighbors, the business owner,”says  Abraham Sanchez, owner of Article Consignment Boutique. ”You are ensuring that the particular business you are supporting has a chance to survive during these hard economic times.”...
