Elkhorn Saloon Country Bar & Grill

Elkhorn Saloon Country Bar & Grill

Located just five minutes from Sacramento International Airport, off Road 22, the historic Elkhorn Saloon is truly a country bar and grill, surrounded by cornfields and the Sacramento River levee.

Originally founded in 1878 by Frank Linggi as the Elkhorn Saloon, this building has housed many things: a restaurant, saloon, post office, brothel and a gambling hall.  Both steamboat and stagecoach passengers would frequent the saloon until the levees were completed in the 1920's.  In 1958 the building was moved to make room for expansion of the Old River Road and it became the Elkhorn Station and became famous for its "Friday Night Fish Fry."

Petra Greek

Petra Greek

This gyro was good, the place is small and seating is limited. Parking around here is a drag too. This was my first time eating here and I'd probably go back with a group and try something else. Its located at 1122 16th St. in downtown Sac.

The Eatery

The Eatery

For the burger junkies out there here is the Junky Burger at The Eatery in West Sacramento. It's made with a peanut butter-chipotle aioli! It was very unique and was quite good.

I do recommend it although it's not something that I could do every day. It set me back around 9 bucks, I think. You need to ask for it since it's off menu.

It's a nicer than casual atmosphere with white tablecloths and apron-clad waiters, so you might want to lose the baseball cap and the pot leaf tee-shirt.
