Oh, No! Mr. Bill at Free Library Program -- Dia! Children's Day/Book Day through May 5.

Christian Hill, a six-grade student at Florin Elementary School, is a regular participant at Southgate Library's free educational programs because, he says, "They're fun, entertaining and help pass time! "

Christian joins teens on Tuesday to create animated stories on a mini-TV taught by Artworks' instructors. Christian and his friends are shown how to create stories combining old-fashioned animation "flip" books with today's digital media.

Writing workshop with Peter Ho Davis - May 12 & 13

Sacramento writer Valerie Fioravanti believes there are fiction and creative nonfiction writers in the greater Sacramento area hungry for learning experiences from what she refers to as Master Teachers.  These are writers with rich publication and teaching histories, the kind of writers who teach in the best MFA programs and writers conferences across the country, teachers who write craft texts or edit prominent magazines, such as the Atlantic Monthly.

Upcoming Workshop - May 12 & 13 (location Midtown)

Peter Ho Davies is the author of the story collections Equal Love & The Ugliest House in the World and the historical novel The Welsh Girl. His work has appeared in Harpers, Atlantic Monthly, Paris Review, Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards and Best American Short Stories. Granta named him a “Best Young British Novelist” in 1993.

Award-winning author visiting Sacramento Public Library

The Sacramento Public Library has invited award-winning, London-based author Caroline Lawrence to share her love of the past, which she combines with mystery and surprise in her exciting detective novels for children, at a free program. The author will appear on Wednesday, April 25 at 1:00 pm at the Del Paso Heights Library, 920 Grand Avenue and at 6:30 p.m. at the Ella K. McClatchy branch, 2112 22nd Street, Sacramento.

Adults are welcome to this lively discussion with the woman who dreamed up the quirky P.K. Pinkerton, hero detective of the new, humorous Western Mysteries series.
Lawrence is the author of the Roman Mysteries, a series of detective novels for children.

Legacy Boutique hosts 'Create your Legacy' Book Drive

SACRAMENTO, CA - Legacy Boutique has partnered with Reading Partners to host a book drive through April 7.

All week long the downtown boutique invites people to bring in a new or gently used book to donate to children in Sacramento and help give back to the community.

Volunteer sign-ups are available for those who wish to donate their time to help struggling young readers in the Sacramento community.

Legacy Boutique is celebrating it's one year April first anniversary with the week-long book drive and various discounts and raffles.

Mystery writers gathering at Left Coast Crime event

Left Coast Crime is an annual event sponsored by fans of Mysteries to provide a venue where readers, writers, librarians and other fans gather to share their mutual interest in the genre.
 
Left Coast Crime 22 will take place in Sacramento, California on March 29 - April 1, 2012.  The convention’s theme, MINING FOR MURDER, is a nod to Sacramento and the surrounding gold country, both of which have appeared in numerous books, cinema and TV mysteries.
 
They  are expecting over 400 attendees from around the world.  The convention will feature panels of experts speaking about mysteries and thrillers, writing novels, and other topics of interest. LCC 22 will host an award banquet to recognize outstanding books, authors and fans.
