SACRAMENTO - Many of you have New Year's resolutions that involve losing weight. You will be put to the ultimate self-control test this weekend if you are attending a Super Bowl party.
There's no doubt, it's going to be a challenge. You're going to be surrounded by lots of bad food for quite some time Sunday and it's going to be hard to resist the temptation.
You can expect a buffet of items like pizza, chicken wings, babyback ribs, pork chops, sausages, barbecue, chips and dip. And of course someone will always bring a dessert; possibly cupcakes or a 49ers cake.
Well all of that is a problem if you have a New Years resolution that you are trying to maintain. You can easily be thrown off course Sunday.
News10 spoke with Nadya Neborak, a health and wellness coach in Citrus Heights. She recommends you start off with a mindset of eating healthy that day - don't say to yourself it's ok to splurge that day.
Run a mile before the party, drink a lot of water, and eat a lot of high fiber foods that will help keep you full. She suggests fruits and vegetables, protein, beans, whole grains, avocados, apples, and whole wheat.
Why start off with a run? Because it will get you in a healthy mindset from the get go, and Neborak says most of the self-control is psychological.
Neborak says people should bring their healthy attitude and healthy food to the super bowl party and try to convince friends to resist the temptation of the Super Bowl feast.
She says you will feel especially good the next day when your friends are desperately trying to burn off the 2000 calories of fatty foods that they ate in just a matter of hours at the party.
