SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The city of Sacramento is preparing for a storm that's expected to arrive later Tuesday night and last through the end of the week.
City crews work to clean storm drains, basins and canals; leaf crews have added additional yard waste collection days to help minimize leaf piles on the street.
"It's important cause we certainly want to keep the streets safe and drivable," Sacramento's Solid Waste and Recycling Division spokesperson Erin Treadwell said. "That's always the goal, and it's something that we are always concerned about when there's a big storm coming through and blows a lot of leaves down."
The city also has a new 311 app to download for customers who have an Android operated phone or an iPhone. If a tree falls or a street light goes out, customers can type the address and information into the app, which then emails the information to the city to dispatch crews.

The Department of Utilities and Drainage also sent crews to unclog storm drains filled with leaves before the storm arrives.
