SACRAMENTO, CA - A child molester who was recently paroled after serving 10 years in prison used his real name to send online child pornography to an undercover FBI agent, according to documents filed in Sacramento Federal Court.
Authorities say Jason Garret Duran, 43, was paroled in June and living in the Marshall Hotel in downtown Sacramento when he began corresponding with a man named "John" he met through a Website catering to pedophiles.
"John" was actually an undercover FBI agent working out of the Washington, D.C. field office, who said Duran sent him several still images and one video depicting children engaged in sex acts using the email address jasongduran@yahoo.com.
Duran also told "John" that he was a convicted sex offender living in Sacramento.
The Megan's law database indicates Duran lives at 1122 7th Street Apt. 409, which is his room at the Marshall Hotel.
When questioned in his hotel room on Oct. 10, Duran admitted setting up the Yahoo email account and using it to communicate with "John."
A search of Duran's hotel room turned up a Dell computer and a thumb drive containing the same files that had been emailed to the undercover agent, according to court documents.
A criminal complaint filed last week was superceded by an indictment handed up Thursday.
According to court documents, Duran was convicted in 2002 for molesting his stepdaughter, who was 10 years old at the time.
Duran is being held without bail in the Sacramento County Jail.
