SACRAMENTO - Firefighters were called to 1517 12th Street in Sacramento Monday morning in response to a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex.
Crews arrived at the complex around 4:20 a.m. on Monday and found the building fully involved.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before 5 a.m. but continued checking for hotspots through 5:30 a.m.
A resident of the complex said she awoke, smelled smoke and quickly pulled the fire alarm. Thanks to the woman's quick actions, 12 of her fellow residents were able to evacuate the complex safely.
A Sacramento Fire Dept. Battalion Chief on scene said the fire likely started in the attic, but was unsure of the exact cause of the blaze.
