Sacramento hotel up to code after News10 report | News

SACRAMENTO, CA - There's relief for those living inside one of Sacramento's largest residental hotels.

During a heatwave last week, residents complained conditions inside the Hotel Marshall were uncomfortable and dangerous.   Most rooms didn't have AC or a sizable cooling room despite a city ordinance requiring residental hotels to have one.

A News10 investigation last week alerted city building inspectors about the problem.

"We found the hotel wasn't up to code, the cooling room managers provided was too small, so we asked them to make changes," city spokesman Maurice Cheney said.

As of Wednesday, the city re-visited the hotel and found changes had been made. A large cooling room on every floor where tenants can be comfortable.

"I know things aren't perfect here, but they are much better, hopefully it won't get so hot again this summer, " tenant Edward Anderson said.
