Landmark Sacramento Coca-Cola bottling plant closes

SACRAMENTO, CA - The last Coca-Cola products have come off the production line at a plant that began operating in 1936.

"I'll miss it. It was my whole life," said Les Linton, a third-generation employee.

Linton, 59, began working at the plant on Stockton Boulevard when he was 18.

"My dad was here for 30 years before that and my grandfather was here for 25 years," he said.

The Sellers family had exclusive rights to sell Coke products in the Sacramento area until selling out to the Coca-Cola company at the beginning of the year.

A company spokeswoman said the old plant lacked sufficient capacity to remain competitive.

The final product run came Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday, workers were mostly idle as they waited for their final paycheck. Plant employees said about 60 people worked there. Some were planning to move to other Coca-Cola facilities.

Arena plan already benefits downtown Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA - A consortium of Sacramento business owners says it already feels the impact of a plan to build a new arena at the Downtown Plaza.

The Downtown Sacramento Partnership says investors and retailers are clamoring for information regarding vacancies near the site of the proposed arena.

"Our phones are already ringing off the hook," said executive director Michael Ault.  "Everything we hoped would happen is happening already and it's only been two or three days."

A development team that was expected to break ground on a $48 million retail and residential project on the 700 block of K Street may go back to the drawing board considering the project would be right across the street from the arena, according to city leaders.

Spring storm prompts flood warning

Thunderstorms and drenching downpours triggered a flood warning for parts of the valley Monday evening.

The National Weather Service said the flood warning was for urban areas and small streams in north central Sacramento County including the city of Sacramento, extreme southwestern Placer County and east central Yolo County.

Those out and about were urged to be aware of ponding/standing water on highways, streets and underpasses as well as in low-lying areas and where there is poor drainage.

Drivers had some tough going at times, with many spinouts and several more serious accidents.

Bob Worl was rear-ended at an underpass on Sacramento's Highway 160 when a driver in front of him slammed on the brakes to avoid floodwater.

"The guy in front of me slammed on his brakes and I slammed on mine," Worl said. "Everybody's fine."

Barty Keomanywong of Sacramento suddenly lost control of her car on westbound Highway 50.

Sacramento company can set up your network in minutes

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento technology company is out to change the way IT departments operate across the globe.

It's developed a first of its kind technology that automatically configures wide area networks up in the cloud.

"We're creating something novel," Jeff Gray said. "And it has legs for the future."

Gray is the Chief Executive Officer of Glue Networks. The Sacramento native founded Glue Networks with Olivier Huynh Van. They were working in London, manually building advanced wide area networks.

"Basically, it was going into the field and spending hours deploying these boxes, routers, devices," explained Huynh Van, Chief Technology Officer. "Struggling, trying to find what the problems were."

"We decided to form Glue in 2007 based upon the premise that if we could automate this complex process there would be a lot of value for enterprises and service providers," Gray said.

Business owners frustrated with the Yelp review process

SACRAMENTO, CA - Yelp is the giant of review websites, boasting more 39 million business reviews, everything from restaurants to salons. More than 102 million people visit the website every month and often make decisions about where they spend their time and money based on the reviews.

Rafik Rabehi, manager of Cafe Rolle in East Sacramento, said business has increased 20 to 30 percent thanks to the more than five500 Yelp reviews, with an average four and a half, out of a possible five, star rating.

"We pop up right away and now they come in and we have people visiting from over 30 states," Rabehi said.

Rabehi said not all of the reviews are positive, but says that's part of the online review process.

"In French we say, 'c'est la vie,' and Yelp is an outlet for people to have their voice and the voice cannot say all the same thing," Rabehi said.
