Happy Peach Pie Time, America!

There are two scents in this world that I absolutely love. One is roasting turkey. The other is fresh peach pie... Read More

Is it the future yet?

Is it the future yet?

Today I was doing a task at work when I wrote the year 2020. The first thought in my brain was, “Will I still be alive then?” I mean in my awareness that’s the future. Except…it’s only 8 years away. 8 years ago? It was 2004. Also, I think I’m stuck in 1998. I have no concept of my age. Hell, I’d barely know what day of the week it was if it weren’t for work... Volunteers of America and Men’s Wearhouse Partner to Help Local Job Seekers with National Suit Drive

This July, Volunteers of America Greater Sacramento, is partnering with Men’s Wearhouse for the fifth annual National Suit Drive, the nation’s largest collection of gently used business attire for men and women. Together, they are encouraging residents in the greater Sacramento community to transform their unwanted businesswear into a fresh start for disadvantaged workers still facing joblessness.

Volunteers of America is joining National Suit Drive and approximately 200 other nonprofit organizations to locally distribute the items collected at more than 900 Men’s Wearhouse locations around the U.S. Items being collected include men’s and women’s suits, shirts, jackets, ties, belts, and shoes.

It’s an awful social necessity, but it is necessary. It’s not easy for the receiver of the rejection. It’s like a hangnail. It stings and it’s annoying and you regret its existence, but in a few days the wound heals and you forget all about it... Read More

Online Dating Chronicles: Getting hit on and back on the site

Ok, Sacramento. You win. I’ll officially take up the unofficial mantel of dating blogger for the area. At least, I don’t know of anyone else in Sacramento, Placer or Yolo counties who is writing about the angst of being single. That’s not to say I won’t write about other things here, but I will no longer eschew the title of dating blogger... Read More

I’m done with parking. And Jeopardy.

I’m done with parking. And Jeopardy.

I’ve noticed that complaining about parking is like listening to my 87-year-old mother talk about Jeopardy. Nothing really changes, it’s an overused conversation starter … and I’m over it.

You know what’s a better conversation topic–Sacramento. Last week, instead of driving 20 blocks to an appointment, I decided to hoof it instead — and I’m glad I did. It felt great to get out from behind my desk and enjoy a brisk walk (well it started briskly). Along the way I noticed a few things I never would have focused on while in my car:... Read More
