Tales From An Accidental E-mail Hoarder

Tales From An Accidental E-mail Hoarder

By Ashlee Gadd

In most aspects of life, I am the anti-hoarder. The Queen Purger. The minimalist. I don’t like dishes in the sink, clothes on the floor, or clutter on the countertops. So how is it, exactly, that I keep 5,800 e-mails in my inbox?

What kind of e-mails, you ask? Oh, the usual. Blog comments, J. Crew sale notifications, anti-Obama spam from my Grandma, online purchase confirmations, notes from friends, invitations to events, responses from weird people about my Craigslist postings, etc. For every 50 e-mails I receive, there are probably two worth saving.

A few months ago I was getting so overwhelmed with my inbox that I spent an entire week unsubscribing from unnecessary e-mails (I’m looking at you, Living Social). It seemed like as soon as I unsubscribed from one list, I had somehow unintentionally subscribed to another. My inbox became a beast that desperately needed to be tamed and I just couldn’t take it anymore... Read More

Date Safely with a Second Mobile Number

Date Safely with a Second Mobile Number

If you are like me, your mobile phone is your life.  OK, maybe not my life, but if I lost my phone or if it was unusable in anyway, I’d be really upset.  Which is why I try to protect it as much as I can.  Take my wallet, but let me keep my phone!

A top priority is to protect my cell phone number.  I don’t like giving it out to just anyone.  When you’re in the dating world, whether it’s online or not, handing out your phone number is kind of a big deal.  There is an agreement of trust in that action.  I’m trusting you not to be a total psycho or at least a weirdo. A second cellphone number is handy to have in your dating arsenal... Read More

The Ten Horrible Men You Meet in Sacramento Bars

The Ten Horrible Men You Meet in Sacramento Bars

By Rachel Smith (with some help from  Laura Braden, Julia Tanghetti and Jamie Romas)

Searching for a man to spend your life with is like trying to fit into your prom dress for your 30th birthday bash: painful and depressing.

How the GOTG editors found more than one employed, single man for the SMEB competition is a feat this state-school-brain will never fully understand. Certainly there are good men out there, as evidenced by all of the newly engaged couples on my Facebook wall each day, but in my experience all the men I encounter are either married or gay. None of whom do me any good when planning a future filled with couples’ dinners and children’s birthday parties at Safetyville.

Dear Dogs

Dear Dogs

By Kira Rasmussen

In unrelated news, I got married last month! But that’s not what this blog is about, it’s just a preface. The point is, on our way home from our honeymoon last week I snatched up a couple mindless weekly magazines for pleasure reading during takeoff. There’s something about reading into celebrity lives that’s nostalgic for me, like it puts me right into that pedicure massage chair and I can feel my toes getting prettier.

I found this gem of a story featuring excerpts from the soon-to-be released book A Letter to My Dog: Notes to Our Best Friends. ... Read More

5 Healthy Eating Goals to Tame the Holiday Season Indulgences

5 Healthy Eating Goals to Tame the Holiday Season Indulgences

Thanksgiving tops the charts as America’s holiday with the highest food consumption and Christmas Day falls close behind in third place (with Superbowl Sunday nudged in-between). The holiday season is here, but amidst the festivities it’s possible to eat, drink and be merry while keeping tabs on your waistline.

Keep these five goals in mind to enjoy the holiday season in good health!

1. Aim to maintain weight, not lose weight. Contrary to common belief, the average American only gains one pound between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas; however, most people may not lose that extra weight. In these next two months set reasonable weight expectations by focusing on maintenance—plus, get a head start on those January 1st resolutions!  ... Read More

Weekly Challenge: Where is your Mojo?

Where's your MOJO?   This week is all about excuses.

We all have them. The reasons we give ourselves, and others, for not doing what we know is best, or what we promised ourselves or others we'd do.
