2012 Weekly Challenge #23: The Power of Encouragement

G. K. Chesterton, an English journalist, once wrote, “The really great person is the person who makes every person feel great.”

When two people interact, they are both changed. The change can be for the better, or not. Whether our influence is helpful or hurtful, positive or negative, depends on whether we give each other the gift of encouragement.

UC Davis Children's Hospital receives national recognition

UC Davis Children's Hospital has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report among the nation's top 50 in four pediatric specialties.

Together with Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California, UC Davis ranked 30th in urology and 40th in orthopaedics. UC Davis also ranked 48th in diabetes/endocrinology and 50th in nephrology.

"These rankings are much-deserved recognition of our pediatric specialists, their teams and their collaborators who provide world-class care to children," said Ann Madden Rice, chief executive officer of UC Davis Medical Center and its children's hospital. "Their passion and commitment to solving some of the most difficult issues in children's health -- from obesity to rare kidney diseases -- in a comforting, expert and family-centered environment is unparalleled."

Rice added that the rankings are just one indicator the hospital uses to determine success in achieving its high standards for patient care.

Sacramento Go Red for Women Luncheon

Sacramento Go Red for Women Luncheon

Go Red For Women hosted a luncheon Friday to celebrate the energy, passion and power women have when they band together to wipe out heart disease and stroke.

The luncheon was at the Radisson Hotel - Sacramento, 500 Leisure Lane, Sacramento from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

There women came together in the fight against heart disease in women. They took their seat at the table with dedicated women and men and heard their survivor stories, learned how heart disease affects a family and how they could help stop heart disease in our lifetime.  Go Red For Women shared their mission to fight the No. 1 killer of women.

Heart disease is still the No. 1 killer of women, taking the life of 1 in 3 women each year. This means women just like you - mothers, sisters, friends - are dying at the rate of one per minute because they don't know what you know: heart disease kills.

Make It Your Mission to fight heart disease in women.
