Green trees get splash of artistic blue in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA - Green and brown are colors that you see in Downtown Sacramento.

What about blue? Even ultra marine blue.

The eye-catching blue is being painted on 20 trees along 13th Street in Downtown Sacramento. The bold color is part of an art exhibit called "Blue Trees."

It's a fun installation exhibit that's already visited cities like Seattle, Melbourne and Vancouver.

"Sacramento and other cities have a wonderful urban forest, but the reality is the old forests are disappearing at a huge rate," artist Konstantin Dimopoulus said.

Dimopoulus is using the bold color to draw attention to an important issue. He is using the trees to speak out against global deforestation.

"I think, if it is was a punctuation mark, the blue would be an exclamation point to remind us to look and appreciate the trees before we look back and they aren't there anymore," volunteer Lisa Defehr said.

Defehr and other volunteers joined Dimopoulus to begin the four-day paiting adventure.

The 20 trees along 13th Street are being painted with water-based and non-toxic piant.

Private donations paid for the exhibit, which is expected to last six months.
