The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. outside of a home on the 800 block of 27th Street, near I Street, during a party, Sacramento police Officer Michele Gigante said.

The 33-year-old woman stepped onto the porch from the party to have a cigarette on the stairs. The suspect then walked up to the woman and tried to steal her purse; when the woman pulled back, the suspect shot her and fled the scene.

71-year-old Sacramento attorney sentenced to jail

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors say a 71-year-old Sacramento attorney has been sentenced to jail for misappropriating funds and over his fee collection practices.

The Sacramento Bee reports that after pleading no contest to grand theft and to three misdemeanor counts of collecting illegal upfront fees for loan modification services, Frank Ferris was also ordered Tuesday to pay more than $72,000 in restitution and serve five years of probation.

Prosecutors say while representing a client in a civil case, Ferris collected $10,000 intended for a settlement and instead took the money for personal use.

Additionally, prosecutors say Ferris failed to return $50,000 he received from another client and instead wrote that client non-sufficient-fund checks.

In a separate matter, Ferris also collected illegal upfront payments for mortgage modification services before services were performed.

Warrant issued for Katt Williams after no show in court

SACRAMENTO, CA - Comedian Katt Williams could be facing even more trouble. He was supposed to be in a Sacramento courtroom Monday afternoon but didn't show, and that has the attention of law enforcement.

With so much strange behavior in recent weeks, it should not have come as a surprise to many that Katt Williams was a no show in court, but his failure to appear could have serious consequences.

When it came time to answer for charges that he lead police officers on a chase through downtown Sacramento riding a three-wheeled motorcycle, Williams was nowhere to be found. Officers said Williams refused to stop, ran red lights, and almost hit five pedestrians back in November.

When Williams failed to appear in court, the judge immediately issued a bench warrant for the comedian's arrest, leaving courtroom observers like public defender Melissa McElheney to speculate as to an explanation.

'Grinch' caught on camera stealing from doorstep

SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento man said his home surveillance video shows a "Grinch" stealing Christmas.

The victim hopes the video will help police track down the thief, who made off with a Christmas gift left on the homeowner's doorstep. It happened on the 1800 block of Kenwood Street just a few days before Christmas.

The homeowner works in security and has a surveillance system set up at his home. The surveillance video recorded the theft from multiple angles.

The video shows the suspect make his approach from the street walking casually, but a closer look at the video shows a masked bandit closing in on the home.

The video shows the suspect walking up on the door step, lifting a doormat and finding a package underneath. The suspect then took the package and walked back down the driveway.
