SACRAMENTO- An innocent bystander was shot and killed in Midtown Sacramento early Saturday.
Sacramento Police responded to 28th St. and J St. at 12:35 a.m. for reports of gunshots and a man who had been shot.
Officers found a man in his 30's in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died, according to Sacramento Police Sgt. Andrew Pettit.
The victim has been identified Sunday morning, as 32-year-old Joseph Long from Carmichael, according to Sacramento County Coroner's records.
Witnesses told police that shots were fired during a fight between two groups near 28th St. and J St. Based on detectives preliminary investigation, it appears the victim had no involvement in the dispute and was hit by rounds fired across the parking lot, Pettit said.
