Path to Gratitude - June 20, 2011

Is your daily life so busy and full of activities that it is causing you stress and agitation? Do you wish you could just find a way to relax and enjoy a life that is less stressful, physically healthy and more enjoyable? Who wouldn't? Well, Michael Moran from Spiritual Life Center joined us to share some useful tips on just how to do that on our Spiritual Wellness segment and here are the top tips Michael wants to share with you.

Tips to Live a Less Stressful Life
1. BE STILL.
Set aside quiet time each morning or night and just tune in and listen to your inner voice. It takes practice to settle the mind and discern the voice of inner wisdom...or as they say in 12-step programs, your Higher Power.

BloodSource helps fulfill military request for plasma

BloodSource helps fulfill military request for plasma

BloodSource has been asked to provide plasma to help support military blood needs.

Male donors who have Blood Type AB, the universal donor for plasma, are needed.

Plasma is a blood component that is often critical for survival of injured soldiers on the front lines.  Only men are currently allowed to donate plasma at BloodSource. BloodSource, as part of  a national agreement between the Armed Services Blood Program Office and America's Blood Centers, a network of community blood centers that collects nearly half of the nation's blood supply, is a designated "hub center" for providing blood for military support when it is needed during wartime.

This process for blood shipment in support of military needs was pre-determined several years ago following Desert Storm in Iraq.  The agreement between America's Blood Centers and the U.S. Department of Defense is to assure all blood needs are met.

Montel Williams opens pot dispensary in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA - Well-known day-time talk show host stood up for medical marijuana and marijuana dispensaries.

Montel Williams helped open a marijuana dispensary in Sacramento Monday afternoon.

Williams hopes that the dispensary will change how the facilities operate in the future.

"We believe they're coming in here to be educated," Williams said at the Abatin Wellness Cooperative. "They're coming in here so they can feel comfortable, so to make them feel comfortable we're going to be providing them with more information and more guidance than I believe any facility in this country is attempting to do."

Williams teamed up with doctors to provide scientific research and advice to medical marijuana users. He plans to make more announcements over the next six months.

Williams suffers from multiple sclerosis and has been a daily pot user for 10-years.

Fewer Sacramento pools open for summer

SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento city pools opened just in time for summer-like temperatures.

Children and adults were waiting when the pool at Johnston Park opened in North Sacramento.

By next week six pools will be open for business, but budget cuts have kept five pools closed for the summer.

Sacramento Aquatics Supervisor Terri Matal explained the city council slashed the pool budget from $3.5 million to less than $1 million.

"It's expensive to run the pools," Matal said. "Between the chemicals and the staffing, that's a good chunk of the budget. It's really taken a bite out of what we can offer to the public."

The Cabrillo, Mangan, Oki, Southside and Tahoe pools are closed.
