Sacramento animal shelters join national initiative to find homes for thousands of animals | Animal Lovers
Local community challenged to #EmptySacShelters over the course of one weekend
Sacramento, CA (October 14, 2013)—Later this week, shelters from around the country will collaboratively attempt to place thousands of homeless animals into new homes over the course of just one weekend for the ASPCA’s Mega Match-a-thon initiative.
Four local animal shelters have joined the initiative and are calling on the Sacramento community to #EmptySacShelters from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, October 18 to Sunday, October 20.
The local effort, aptly named the Empty Our Shelters Project, will provide individuals and families the opportunity to be a part of something big by helping to end homelessness for animals found in shelters. That weekend, participating local animal shelters will allow Sacramentans to adopt any animal from any shelter for just $20!
Participating shelters include:
6201 Florin Perkins Rd.
Sacramento County Animal Care
3839 Bradshaw Rd.
City of Sacramento Front Street Shelter
2127 Front St.
Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary
6001 Folsom Blvd.
The ultimate goal of the Empty Our Shelters Project is to close the doors at local shelters on Sunday, October 20 without an animal left in need of a home; however, the project will be considered a success if the community adopts 500 animals between the four shelters over the course of the weekend.
For more information on the Empty Our Shelters Project and for an up-to-date count of the number of animals adopted throughout the weekend, please visit www.sactopet.net.
