About Us
The SAFE foundation, Sight And Function Enhancement was created to bring help and hope to those affected by vision loss through medical low vision rehabilitation services.
Located in Northern California, SAFE provides a new beginning for a fuller, more independent life.
Ronald Cole, M.D., an ophthalmologist focusing on retinal disease for more than 35 years, established SAFE as a publicly-supported charitable organization under Section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code to answer the need to provide a sustainable medical model low vision rehabilitation service and training program in Northern California. Dr. Cole is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the UC Davis Eye Center where he and his occupational therapists interact with the full time faculty, fellows and residents.
SAFE emphasizes a team approach utilizing ophthalmologists, optometrists, occupational therapists, and other low vision professionals to provide rehabilitation services.
